![]() ![]() I still intend to make a trip up there to check out the area shortly after the new year, but this discovery made me pause just a little bit. This makes no sense and is annoying considering they're using less expensive and inferior materials. I then compared the base price of a new home model that I like with one of the national builders and found that prices in NE Florida are in most cases quite a bit higher than other areas of Florida that's actually more popular. I just always thought that stucco was the standard in Florida, but I know it can crack and cause problems so it would be great if siding is better. Why do builders use Hardie Board or that type of siding instead of stucco? My brief research so far revealed that siding is less labor intensive and not as costly, but I can't figure out if one is better or lasts longer than the other. On and other sites, it clearly shows that my house is wood frame, but one of my friends used to live in JAX, and this site doesn't show this information about her house. For example, my home that I sold two years ago in the Orlando area is a wood frame, but I always said that my next house will be block. It also appears that this information is hidden from the consumer in NE Florida. Why are homes in NE Florida built with wood frames and not concrete block and has it always been that way? Block is obviously the better option anywhere in Florida for many reasons, but especially in a coastal area. Johns County, but I discovered some things yesterday that I'd like to better understand.
